Casual Gamer = $

The Wii is for casual gamers? If you only play the Wii, you’re not a hard core gamer? Who knows? But those type of statements have crossed gaming sites, podcasts (including ours) and print all over the gaming world. But there is one thing for sure. The Wii makes money.
“Today, the Financial Times reported that the three-way race between the next-generation consoles has a new frontrunner. Citing cumulative sales data through the end of July, the British newspaper’s Japanese correspondent is claiming that the Nintendo Wii has now sold more units worldwide than the Xbox 360, despite the latter’s year-long head start.
According to the Times, approximately 9 million Wiis were purchased across the globe as of July 31, just barely overtaking the 360’s 8.9 million units sales during the same period. Both platforms were far ahead of the PlayStation 3, which sold only around an estimated 3.7 million units internationally.”

I think a lot of this is due to even Xbox Staff saying things like: I’ll get a Wii as my 2nd console.
Little do they realize that the Wii is the “Console of Choice” in most households. And the word 2nd is only in the minds of those who would like to think so.
I’m an avid gamer; thus I enjoy games that have depth. Most of the Wii games do not offer extensive gameplay. (I say Most, there are some exceptions) However the Box and Sony seem to have the games that us “Hardcore” gamers want.
I have to think that even the house that Mario built isn’t going to go after the Hardcore gamer soon. With all the monies they have amassed in the past year (and all from selling an inexpensive not breaking console) they will be able to take risks in the future and all while keeping their console lead, and gaining the Harcore gamers from reliability, fun, and most of all recognition!

I consider myself a hardcore gamer, and i do own a Wii.It’s the game si play for it that are in-depth, not all, but some actually do have some depth to them. Resident evil 4 and the legend of Zelda:Twilight princess offer some of the most depth in a game that you will find on the Wii. I did not buy a Wii just as my second console either, i thought that there was plenty of games that i would be interested in in the upcoming months that would appeal to all gamers, and thats why i bought it.

While I consider myself an above casual gamer, I still have no desire for a Wii due to lack of a great title featuring great online play. The Wii is for “casual” gamers and those gamers rule the planet.
Great price, great control gimmick and great recognition is the winning formula for Wii. When I was in elementery/middle school, my mom never said “It’s late, turn off those games!” She would say “turn off that Nintendo.”
