Oh no, please don’t Go!

Whats up everybody at Platform Nation and XBL Radio, it’s Mr B4 here, and before I get into my news topic of this week, I would just like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. The staff here at Platform Nation has been very gracious to me this year, giving me many opportunities that I would not have received otherwise, thanks to all of you who have done that for me. I also want to say that I would not be bringing you an article every week if it wasnt for the feedback that I get from all members of the community, I appreciate that. Enough of this Mumbo Jumbo, let’s move on to the news story of this week.

I have just recently read a news story on N4G.com saying that Bill Gates is planning on ending his executive duties at Microsoft sometime in June of next year so that he can become a full tme Philanthropist. He will, however still remain the Chairman of the company, which is, needless to say, not all that shocking to anybody. If I started a company that made me lots of money, I would do the same thing as well.

This is a big, big, change for the tech, as well as the gaming industry, because now Microsoft can get some fresh blood in there, and hopefully they will find ways of fixing some of the problems that 360 gamers have been plagued with since the launch of the system, and also bring some fresh ideas to the industry. Here is what Dwight Davis, an analyst at the Ovum research firm, had to say about the matter.

“I don’t think the departure will be too disruptive — it’s not like it’s a complete severing of the relationship,” said Dwight Davis, an analyst with the Ovum research firm. “But nonetheless, that’s going to be a notable milestone in the coming year for Microsoft — one that will alter the company’s profile in a fairly significant way.”

Now I have already stated my opinion about this matter, what do all of you think about this?

Could this be a good or bad thing for Microsoft?

What will this change bring to us as Gamers, anything at all?

Alienated at the Cine-plex!

I didn’t expect much from an AVP sequel. I still think Aliens (thats
the 2nd film) will never be topped for action and overwhelming
alien-frenzy. However I’m a fan: and that’s just what “The Brothers
Strause” are counting on. Guess after some FX work, a Nickleback Music
Vid, and Herbie Fully Loaded they earned the nickname? Anyhow let’s
dive into AVP2. Here is my total take on the film. It’s Critters
(Aliens land in the woods and attack the folks) mixed with Gremlins (I
should say Gremlens 2 “The New Batch” because of the same sequel
formula) and a dash of Pedetor (the Governators old stick).

Theren lies the problem: ITS TOO MUCH! There is so much going on and
none of it is remotely fresh. It’s as if all three of the films I just
mentioned were put into a STRAUSE BROS Cuisinart and served up as an
after-Christmas feast. However I’m still hungry for something. How
about a serving of PLOT? Or some acting with the main course? Or how
about turning on a light while I dine? Geeze even a candle would have
helped. This film is so dark (the fights, the killings, the theater
where I viewed it) I was so happy to hit the lobby afterwords.

I’ve always thought that dimly lit bars make the women seem hotter. Or
maybe it’s the beer…

THATS WHAT I NEEDED FOR THIS FILM BEER! LOTSA BEER!

I’m having a very…Red christmas!

What’s up everybody, it is B4 here again with a very sad story to all of you. What a time of year for something like this to happen to me. The worst part about what happenned is that most of the presents I wanted this year were some kind of accessory for my 360. Let me give you the low down as to what I am talking about.

Just a couple of days ago I bought myself a brand new 26′ Vizio LCD HDTV from Wal-mart for my room so I can play games and watch movies in High Definition. On Saturday I was setting up my 360 to it so I could play the Simpsons Game with my GF, and what does my 360 do to me?, it gives me the three red rings of death. The whole time my GF and I thought that there was something wrong with the HD cables since no image was projecting on the screen, I look down and there are those ominus lights blinking at me going “ha, ha, ha, not this time jerky”.

I cant beleive now I have to wait close to a month to get a new 360 sent back to me from microsoft, and of all times of year that it could happened to me, it had to happen now. Oh well, guess its time to play the Wii and the PS2 for awhile. I’ll get a chance to check out the Wii zapper with some more games, and im telling you right now, the zapper rocks. Either way, this is bad news, but I will still try to make the best out of my holiday experience. A Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton is officially the Master of Dark and Delightful. In his latest goth-fest Burton once again makes black seem brighter than ever. Adapted from the musical Broadway play, Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet street, is a pitch perfect early Christmas gift. Burton once again teams up with Depp (this is his 8th collaboration with the actor) and Burton also reunited Johnny with his Corpse Bride (Carter). I went into the film with a preconceived notion that once again Depp would be quirky and in another of his “Look at how strange I am” persona. I’m glad he didn’t disappoint. He was nothing short of brilliant.

The film, which complements the musical, grows on you. The first hour is spent understanding the despair and demise of a once passionate romance (for the city of London and for Todd). The second act is a tale of vengeance, bloodletting, and tragedy. All this is set to music that is done in an almost Operatic fashion. Most of the songs fill in the story and set the mood of the film. However there are several numbers that you wont easily get out of your head. To make matters worse these numbers are set to a stunning visual reference that will haunt you each time you hum about mince meat pies.

Todd is also filled with an excellent supporting cast. From new faces (Jamie Bower, Laura Kelly) to unforgettable ones (Sacha Baron Cohen and Alan Rickman). I have had several friends state that Cohen is a one-hit-wonder. I have to say that I’m wondering how he hits every note just right in this role. His duel with Todd is like High Noon on a bad Mushroom trip.

Todd being released during the Holidays won’t be a gift for everyone. Even though it is garnering some Oscar buzz; Todd it is still a morbid, dark and skanky tragedy, with pie! So if you’re a fan of Depp, or you love Broadway, or even if the latter two don’t account for your movie dollar, go see this film. However if you you like your music and movies a-la fast food style:

The Duke is Back, Maybe?

Whats up everybody, B4 here again with something I wanted to share with all of you. After checking out some video game sites the other day, I came across a teaser trailer for possibly the next game in the Duke Nukem Series, Duke Nukem:Forever.

Personally, I  have been a fan of this series since Duke Nukem 64 came out, simply because of the attitude and originality that was brought to these games by the developers at 3D Realms. Going to strip clubs, smoking cigars, watching dirty movies, and delivering cheesy one-liners were what made Duke great, and the fun and exciting gameplay didnt hurt either. Granted it sometimes felt like Doom on steroids, but it was still fun to play.

The reason I am saying all of this is because after looking at the video, I got that same feeling of excitement once again. I was disappointed however that there was no gameplay shown in the video, especially since the game is taking “forever” to be made, you think there would be more footage of the game at this point,but there isn’t. Check out the video for yourselves and make the call, should we get more from a teaser trailer, or is this enough for now until another trailer comes out?

I want to play with my Wii!

Hey whats up everybody, even though there has been a lot of crazy stuff going on here at XBL Radio lately, with hosts taking breaks, new hosts coming in, etc., I am still going to bring you an article today like I always do every Monday. So lets get into a particular story i found this past weekend that I found interesting.

For all of you who are mad that you cannot find a Wii anywhere might be in luck this holiday season. Apparently Nintendo of America’s president and CEO, Reggie Fils-Aime, has just come up with a plan to make sure that all of you frustrated gamers out there who don’t have a Wii yet will have one very soon. He has said that Nintendo will be partnering with Gamestop to distribute rain check certificates at the full price of a Wii console on Dec 20th and 21st, securing customers a system that they will be able to pick up sometime in January.

To tell you the truth, there is a problem that I have with this idea. My issue with this is that the offer only goes on for two days, instead of at least a week, making it impossible for most of us to get a Wii that don’t have one yet, since most people purchasing one will be parents who have been looking to pick up one for their kids, leaving regular gamers like us in the dust since we will be at work when this will be going on. It is a nice step forward, however, showing that Nintendo is trying to make finding a Wii a little bit easier, especially during the Christmas shopping season.
