My Newest Dilemma
Ok, I just had my birthday and I was given a hundred dollars in Bestbuy dollars, which got me thinking; I now can get a HD DVD player for only a hundred dollars(of my own money)! But then Microsoft just lowered the prices of the wireless racing wheel and Bestbuy has them on sale for 109, which would really only cost me nine dollars. But then that got me thinking, I have a Nintendo Wii that I haven’t touched since Febuary, so if I went and I sold it along with the games and accessories I have for it, add the Bestbuy dollars, I would probably only have to cough up max 200, more then likely 100-150 though. And if I took that route I would have a high-def dvd player and another videogame console. So with all this going on, I’m not sure what I should do, and this is why I am posting this here, to see what you all think. So do me a favor and help me make my decision for me.

Save your money, save your Wii and save your best buy gift card for now. You never know when Best Buy could pump out some crazy sales and clearances on games.

The Wii is a waste right now, but some day you’ll wish you had it if you give it up.
The PS3 is destined for a price cut this fall-and someone will give you a bunch of money for Christmas.
The racing wheel, even at $109, is not a good value unless you live and die by racers. Two or three games out of your collection don’t justify the purchase to me.
Wait on the HD-DVD drive until the format wars stabilize-or you get a PS3, whichever comes first.
There will be a dozen games between now and the end of the year that will warrant your $100 worth of Best Buy loot. I’d go that route.
Sincerely,
PS3Superfan.

We need to know some things about you.
Are you a super Forza 2 fan? Because the wheel is basically only good with that game. If you are, then it is a no brainer and you’d have the wheel already.
Are you a graphics whore? Or are you willing to look past simpler graphics in exchange for innovative and compelling gameplay? If you need to have ton notch graphics in order to enjoy your games, then the Wii may not be for you. If you are willing to except simpler, cartoonish graphics…then I’d hold onto my Wii. Do you like Mario, Metroid, Zelda? If yes, keep. If no, sell. Does your wife like to play?
HD-DVD just isn’t worth it. I’ve posted on the forums, and said that HD-DVD is dead in the water (based on current player and title sales compared to blu-ray). If you’re thinking of one day getting a PS3, then the though of getting an opposing player is null and void.
How badly do you want a PS3? Are you willing to wait 3-5 months for the flagship titles to arrive? Would you be willing to tide yourself over with Resistance, Warhawk and Ninja Gaiden until then? Are you willing to shell out a little more money for the console and games? Do you have to choose between the PS3 and the Wii? (The PS3 and 360 are very similar when it comes to multiplatform titles.)
I know what I’d do in your position, but I like Nintendo games, can look past graphics, and wanted a blu-ray player and love Ninja Gaiden. I’d keep the Wii, save for the PS3, play Forza to see if I could spent 20-40 hours on it (to justify the wheel)…then I’d give up food for a month.

I picked the wireless wheel because I think that is the pice of hardware that will give you the most fun for your moeny, but I agree with Thrillhouse: Choose that ONLY if you are getting Foza 2! Otherwise, just save it for the Halo 3 Legendary Edition…

Save it for the next game you want to buy…

I say purchacing the PS3 for the serious gamer. That way you will have a take on both of the mega-consoles. (For a Gamer Podcast Host it will come in handy)
The wii, as fun as it is for kids, is not a must-have system. The only reason it is in demand right now is due to the sparce amounts of them available. It is almost “A controlled Hype”
The PS3 seems to offer a lot for a gamer like you. BLUE RAY, a new HOME feature, and HDMI without a black box!
That’s where I would go with your issuez;
Better to kill two birds with one stone, than to have one stoned bird!

Carpal, you call 7+ MILLION Wiis sold “sparce amounts”? I don’t own a Wii (nor do I really want one) but don’t undermine it because of your Microsoft loyalty.
Recently you’ve been talking about purchasing a second 360, haven’t you? That sounds more like saving one bird with two stones.

I voted for getting the HD DVD drive. I have one, and I really enjoy it. Assuming you already have a subscription to gamez and flicks or netflicks, etc., you can rent all the HD DVD’s you want. If your TV supports 1080p via VGA or component, then it’s a great buy and if it’s 720p it’s still amazing. I figure the HD DVD drive will drop in price, but who knows when? It will also work as an external PC drive with the right drivers.
I, personally, would still sell the Wii while demand is high and supply is low, but that’s just me. The only compelling games I’ve seen for the PS3 are also on the 360. I know there will be a few Sony exclusives that I wouldn’t mind to try, but I have more 360 games than I can keep up with.
Of course, you could buy 8000 MS points and spend them on 20 copies of Geo Wars, like Rusty would do, or even get 20 copies of the ‘Game of the Year!’ You could save it and add $40 and get the Master Chief cat helmet!

I called it SPARCE AMOUNTS because they are not in high volume on store shelves. It gives the appearance of popularity. However I merely implied that idea. Did not state it as fact.
I own a Wii, and MS loyalty or not: My gametime is spent on the 360. And my kids are leaning that way as well. They still enjoy flinging the remote around. However at the end of the day: They prefer, like myself, to play games the way they are meant to be played…

I just got the wireless racing wheel last night and I love it. I don’t think I’ll be playing any racing games without it from now on. Your times will probably be a bit worse (well that is what I have heard), but it is so much more fun. I was playing the Forza 2 demo and I was finally able to pass another car without crashing after a few minutes of playing (which I can’t seem to be able to do with the controller). I even managed to start driving around with an R2 class car. The game just felt right for me after using the wheel.
Just make sure you have something to clamp it too.
I ended up just ordering the Limited Collector’s Edition of Forza 2 (here in Canada) and it came to $90 after taxes but I don’t care. I know I’m going to be spending a lot more time with it than most games because of the wheel
