It’s Nintendo’s turn to brag

Posted under Nintendo by Rusty Ranchero

Nintendo Reports that over five million DS owners have connected via WiFi, worldwide. Those users have engaged in more than 200 million sessions of gameplay since the service was introduced in November 2005. More than 60 titles, including Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing: Wild World offer WiFi connected gameplay.

“Nintendo DS gamers globally use Nintendo WiFi Connection as an easy, fun place to find fellow players, all without paying anything extra for the service,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “The milestones represent millions of hours of fun and camaraderie despite miles between players.”

If Sony and Nintendo continue to flaunt their (free) online services, maybe this could pressure Microsoft into finally offering Gold service at no charge? Hey, I think I saw that Devil at Dillard’s looking for a Winter jacket. But it was far and kinda dark; it could have just as well been Carpal.

Great heads up Rusty. As much as I love live (which I do), what we’re really paying for is a fancy buddy list. If Sony had an identical service, then the PS3 would be my system of choice hands down. Free online play, web browser, dedicated servers…all things that the 360 does not have.

I don’t mind paying a monthly fee to game, but make it more worth our while MS. Give us lag free gaming, something Sony does.
