J.W.’s Notes: GamePro gaffing articles?
I saw this at Xbox 360 Rally, gamepro.com is stealing our articles and running them as there own. Even going as far as using our own custom made pics. Here is the article as from Xbox 360 Rally:
GamePro is currently running a story about a supposed “Halo 3 tax” on it’s website. After looking over the evidence presented in the GamePro article, I have to say that I agree. You know, like I did the first time when XBLRadio originally broke this story.
I am not someone who will start fueds with websites without provocation. However, when another site runs with a story broken by another site, going so far as to use images from the original story, I take issue. If you want to report this, fine. No problem. But give proper credit when credit is due.

I want to thank the guys at Xbox 360 Rally for bringing this to our attention and letting us know what was going on.

Wow, that’s an insanely odd “coincidence”. Good job Rusty, imitation is the highest form of flattery.

All i have to ask is WHY!!!!

Need to start copyrighting those articles, Doesn’t gamepro pay their writers?
Oh well, Go Rusty!!!

I appreciate all your support. BUT the main thing to focus on here is that the information has reached many many gamers. So while the savings may not even add up to an Ultimate Cheeseburger (with no mustard), we are ultimately saving money.
So credit or no, if you helped spread the word, I’m not madatcha.

I agree with Rusty. In the end Gamers are informed. XBLR has never been a site/podcast to tout it’s own horn. Sure we want to succeed, but at what cost? Awards, MVPs, Hype, and Diggs won’t make us any better off.
The main thing is we have intelligent staff and community that cares about Gamers first, applause second. Rusty proved that in his own rebuttle.

its nice to get the word out yes but when a site that is as big as gamepro.com runs our story we deserve credit for it, we potentially lose would be listeners and readers when they don’t say where the stories originally came from. Plus then they get pay there writers real money, not the Monopoly money we get paid to come up with our articles so when they take our story and pass it as there own its just not right.

It wasnt just them, I seen it on a couple gaming sites after I read Rusty’s article on XBLradio.com first. Similar tag line and all, they didnt go as far as using the exact same pictures. But they did have the same story….

This same story popped up even on the latest episode of “The Hotspot” (somewhere around minute 25 or 30) though they mention the source as being Kotaku, and somewhere between lines “Xbox Live…” was said.
But really, is it so hard to give credit to the originator of the article?
I guess it all goes in the name of glory… sadly.

The Hotspot gives credit to XBLRadio. They mention that the story was on Kotaku via XBLRadio, they were pretty clear.

Sorry, my bad, obviously I missed them saying “radio” (That’s what happens when you listen to podcasts on NYC Subways… had to listen to it second time to verify)
Thanks Thrill for pointing it out.
