Child protection questions

Hey everyone, I’m going to write a REAL article soon about what has been done, what is going to be done and what should be done to help protect kids online and what parents should know and what they can do.

But I wanna know what you wanna learn about this subject or if you have any ideas about what can help.

So please fill me in with questions, comments or concerns. I’m planning to also be getting a hold of MS about this so if you have ideas or questions for them let me know and I will do what I can.

You can discuss this here or in our forums at this topic http://www.xblradio.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=348

O.K. here comes the big paragraph on this topic:

I being the father of two “Child Gamers” would like to comment. Since I chose to have children, and you all didn’t, it is my responsibility to parent them. I have issues with laws that begin: Think about the children.
My answer is why do I have to think about your children? I know to some it may take a village, but I ask is the village going to help you score with that hot chick at the drive-thru? So it only takes a village when it benefits you?

Look in a word “responsibility” If you chose to go all natural, or use a borrowed condom from your friend, or decided the sex was worth the risk; then it is your consequences. Just like day-care, diaper changes, and yes monitoring what goes into your kids head. I take this resposibilty very seriousley. I chose to have kids, therefore I feel an obligation to raise them. Not you, not MS, and not the Government.

I also dont think it’s a bad thing to have parental controls. But here is the best parental control. “BE A PARENT” Your kids, like mine, can still play games online just do not allow chat, observe thier gameplay. Hey here is a thought: Be a part of it with them. Like I did with Lego Star Wars. I watched them play through the game. And when they asked why Chewbacca had a boner, I answered, “Go ask your MOM!”

Carpal has great points. It makes me wanna ask, what is your main obgective here?

Passing laws is the last thing we need in this matter. What I think we really need is awareness and education. But it’s gonna be a hard sell to get tax dollars to pay for that.
