Hey All,
I've been listening to the podcast for a while now and finally have gotten around to the forums.
I'm a 42 yr. old former Army SGT in Rockland County, NY. Married 11 years (why do you think I play video games? ). Also have a 9yr. old son who has his own Xbox1 and just might be getting a 360 under the tree this year (shhh! don't say anything!)
Until I listened to the podcast I was the "Self-Proclaimed Oldest Person on XBL". I was quite surprised to hear there are few more "seasoned" gamers out there. I might just have to rethink the title.
Was mostly a PC gamer before Xbox1 came around. Been an XBox owner since day 1. Been on XBL since the beginning. I was lucky enough to own a 360 a week after launch (and I didn't have to wait in line!!). I own all the good 360 games plus all 34 XBLA games (probably 35 tomorrow ). Not bad for an old timer whose first console was a Magnavox Odyssey 2 and played his first PC game on a Commodore Pet 4K! (that's 4K, not 64). _________________ GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!

Don't worry, I won't hold that against you. At least you weren't an Anchor Clanker. _________________ GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!

No need to rag on PC games.
To be honest, I was mainly a PC gamer until the 360 came out. Even with a Xbox1, I leaned towards PC. Before the 360 came out, I was a solid BF2 player (way better on PC), and before that a solid GW player. I mean I go back to when you loaded PC games with a dang tape recorder! There is a bit of history there. When the 360 launched, I didnt touch my PC for 6-7 months. All you gotta do is look at the gamerscore to see I'm a serious 360 gamer. I've just been taking a semi-break from the 360 since so many good games have been appearing for the PC. I'm not a WoW addict like my buddy is. I just tried it since the price dropped. I actually like GW better. PC was good to me for years, I just need to show it a little love now and again. But in the end, I always come back to XBL for its simplicity in handling online multiplayer with voice. _________________ GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!

Helllooooo, wellllcommee.... Hope you had a wonderful Halloween.
Thanks for sharing a lot. I think you have a very interesting story here. Over 40 years old and was a hard core PC gamer untill the 360 came out! Very cool, indeed.
What exactly is it about the 360 that's making you put down the mouse and keyboard? (and I know I keep stressing your age, but I'm not trying to remind you how much of a grandpa you are, but) Do you think your age has taken it's toll on you too? And what I mean is: Now you just want to relax on the recliner and less on the desk?
Welcome to XBL Radio.

I like the new Splinter Cell a lot. The graphics and sound are top notch, which is something we kinda expect from a Clancy game. SCDA does not disappoint. Next-gen Sam Fisher looks amazing!
When it comes to the game itself, previous SC gamers will feel right at home at the beginning, but it quickly morphs into a whole new type of experience. Very engaging gameplay. Good storyline too.
The multiplayer is a hoot. Its just a wee bit different from the last one, so it takes some getting used to. _________________ GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!

Let's just get it out in the open that before 360, I was a PC snob. I did not own any console from my Magnavox Odyssey2 in 1980 until Xbox came out in 2001. Even when I had an Xbox, I still felt the PC games were better. The one area where consoles excelled over PC was sports games. It was much easier to do sports on a console. Controllers were better than mouse/keyboard. Plus the console was "buddy friendly". Much easier getting your friends in front of a 52" TV instead of huddled around a 19" PC monitor. When XBL came out in 2002, MS gave us a complete package of online gameplay AND voice chat. That had never been done before. Anyone whose played PC games for any length of time knows that getting voice chat up and running with any game is difficult at best. Some games incorporate it now but it used to be you had to setup a Roger Wilco or TeamSpeak server, configure software, etc. What a pain in the a**. Bring in a game like Halo2 and now you have an amazing game, plus online competition, coupled with the social interaction of voice chat. Just turn on XBox and connect. Simplicity defined. The 360 raised that simplicity to a new level, plus brought the console up to par with the PC graphically. That's what brought me back from the dark side. Does this mean I'm ditching PC games? Nope. There are still some types of games that are just better on PC. Plus, with Vista on the way, I'm curious to see if it blurs the line between PC and console (re: ShadowRun + Live Anywhere).

There is a comfort factor involved, but I dont think its an age related thing. I'm sure many of the XBLR listeners of all ages enjoy being a "lazy gamer" on the couch/recliner with a wireless controller and the cold beverage of their choice. Plus, having a 55" Sony HDTV (ironic, isnt it?) also helps the 360 be just that much more appealing. _________________ GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!
