i'm for sure renting it but that might be it, I don't think that I've ever played entirely through a splinter cell game

Don't admit that. Splinter Cell is arguably the best franchise the Xbox had. That is like saying you never beat Halo.
Anyways, I am at least getting this game when it comes out through Gamefly. I will beat the story mode, and see if I can hang on-line. Then I will decide to keep or send it back.
