For all you music enthusiasts and video game rockers, this Friday (September 12, 2008) will be a monumental first for both the gaming and music industries. Metallica’s ninth album, Death Magnetic, will be available as downloadable content for Activision’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, and you will also be able to pick up the album at your local music store. Also included with this DLC is two renditions of “Suicide & Redemption” that has extended solos by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. But don’t let what you read totally impress you because the best has yet to be told. For all you rockers that will be picking up Guitar Hero World Tour, this DLC album is forward compatible. Meaning, all you have to do is pick up Guitar Hero World Tour and the album will seamlessly integrate with the game when it is released this October at no extra charge.

“PAX 2008 Collection” for Rock Band

Posted under DLC, Harmonix, Market Place, PAX, PS3, Rock Band, XBL Radio, Xbox 360

rock-band

Harmonix and MTV Games have created a very special set of downloadable content to celebrate the three day event called Penny Arcade Expo. The “PAX 2008 Collection”, which should be up today, contains tracks from Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, and The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - all of whom performed at the event last weekend. And to add to the excitement, all proceeds from the sales of this “PAX Pack” between launch and Holiday 2008 will be donated to the Child’s Play Charity that is ran by Penny Arcade.

The songs that will be available individually and as a pack are “Skullcrusher Mountain” by Jonathan Coulton, “Livin’ on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe” by MC Frontalot, and “Shhh….” by Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. Individual song prices are .99¢ (80 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) per track, or $2.99 (240 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for the 3 pack. All of these songs are the original master recordings. These songs should be available today to purchase for Rock Band on the Xbox360, and for PS3 owners, these tracks will be available on Thursday, September 4, 2008.

Summer of Arcade *Round 5* - The Finale

Posted under DLC, Game Releases, INFECTEDPB503, Podcast, XBL Radio

Well its hard to believe that another summer is almost over.  With younger gamers on there way back to school next week its good news for the older gamers.  Either young or old if you’ve been participating in Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade you have been playing some of the greatest games, available in retail or digital download, that have been released in a very, very long time.

Starting with Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 it was clear XBLA was going to be firing on all cylinders.  You still here stories of people trying to be “top 6 of my all friends” or “trying to get the wax-off achievement in an act in insanity” and will for a long time.

Round 2 was, arguable, a bigger hit then Geo Wars 2.  Braid sparked a lot of controversy with its high price but in the end it seems the gameplay is going to win out and make this platformer a must own.

Round 3, The Greatest Day in Gaming History, was not just a remake of a NES classic, but a complete redo with huge improvements.  Bionic Commando: Rearmed turned into an instant classic that if you have not bought, do so NOW!  Yes we could use the better d-pad but practice in the more then 60 challenge rooms will have you swinging like it was 1988 all over again.

Round 4… Well they could not all be stellar games and we all knew that one out of the five would be on the bottom.  Its the nature of gaming and Galaga Legions was feed to the meat grinder.  While it will find its niche will previous Galaga gamers it is by far the least anticipated game in the Summer of Arcade.

Then we get to this week.  The final week in the Summer of Arcade (although summer still has 3+ weeks left) sees another highly anticipated title released.  Having been played at the last two PAX’s, by our own Steve519, it appears Castle Crashers may be the best of all.  Why? Impressions below!

Summer of Arcade *Round 4* - The Downward Spiral & Contest

Well the last three rounds of Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade were heavyweights the likes of which we will never see again!

With Geomtry Wars Retro Evolved 2, Braid and Bionic Commando: Rearmed, released respecativly over the past three weeks, straight knock out buys; and with Castle Crashers looming next week (for 1200 MS Points) is the developers who made “Gaming History” with Pac-Man Championship Edition enough to revive, yet another, classic ’80s coin-op arcade shooter?

Summer of Arcade * Round 2 - “Braid” Impressions & WIN A Copy Here!

Posted under Contests, DLC, Game Releases, INFECTEDPB503, Microsoft, XBL Radio, Xbox Live Arcade

With such a stellar entry last week, Geometry Wars 2, in to the Xbox Live Arcade Library I am eagerly awaiting this morning’s release of:

If you all remember this is one of the titles to have the price leaked out a couple weeks ago.  At the time it was rumored Braid would cost 1200 MS Points ($15 USD).  But wait! Microsoft soon came out to squash this rumor and state that this would not be the price for Briad (See wrap up of all stories here on Xbox360Fanboy).

Well guess who *umm* “mis-spoke”?  And guess what the price of Braid is?  Is it worth 1200 MS Points ($15)?

“The end level is f**king ingenious.” according to Gamer Hate

But continue on for XBLRadio’s Quick Impressions of this “time bending puzzler”,

For details on how YOU CAN WIN your own copy of Briad,

And stay tuned for a full XBLRadio Review Upcoming!…
