Well, I was going to wait to post these results, but honestly, I am just too freaking impatient. I think some of you will be surprised as to which game got the most votes, but most of you wont, I bet.

I just want to say thank you to all of you who voted in this poll, all 26 of you, lol. Either way, your vote counts, and shows you care about what games you play. I honestly have to say that I am surprised. With all of the COD4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Half-Life 2: The Orange Box talk about any one of them possibly being game of the year, and Halo 3 winning the majority of the votes, its just a little bit strange to me.
Other than that, I really don’t have anything else to say. All I’m going to say is share your thoughts and opinions about these results, because your opinion about the games you play does matter.

Mass Effect all the way baby! I thought that game would be #1. I guessed wrong. I hope everyone at least gets the chance to play it, it is such a great game. Game of the year IMO.
WOW, HALO as GOTY!?!
Honestly thought it would be something that brought something “new” to the table (or console).
BIO was awsome in art-direction.
HALO was good in a nastalgic HALO way.
I hear MASS Effect is deep. But no multi hurts.
COD4 changed the series around adding great multi-play with better incentive than HALOs and a jaw-dropping single player (it was short but has some real challenges).
I would have to give COD4 the Trophy.
Why not mention Rock Band and GH3?
Both games capitilized of the success of GH. One added a karoke mic and cheap drum set. No wireless and not a true sense of a Rock Band unless you have four people in your house everytime you play. Gameplay is nothing new. You match the colors with the sounds. FUN? Yes. GOTY? Perhaps in Marketing (this games costs and will keep on costing).
There is no doubt, COD4 is the best game this year once you take out fanboy aspects , such as RPG lovers and nostalgic values.
People voting for Halo (jesus) 3, are voting with their harts not their heads..

Not to be a SmartA@#, but Rusty would have appreciated a SHADOWRUN mention. It has to be HIS GOTY.
Shadowrun didn’t have a single player in it so I don’t think it deserves to get GOTY.
Shadowrun has no chance of GOTY because of lack of single player. Just as Mass Effect has no chance of GOTY because of lack of multiplayer.
How crappy is the vehicle fighting battles in Mass Effect… lol, That game really sucks…
Anzac Rage: I strongly agree with your comment about Mass Effect having no multiplayer but when you said “That game really sucks…” it really makes me angry lol.. How can you judge a game completely for a tiny tiny part of the game like vehicle fighting. Personally, I love the vehicle fighting and see nothing wrong with it. The zoom is amazing for it and the Mako is very fun to drive. But even if you still hate it, how often do you have to use it in combat? The mako is nothing to complain about and there is much more in Mass Effect than driving around in a vehicle.. Mass Effect doesn’t support multiplayer and that is ok because what would multiplayer be? Dialog? Anyways, Mass Effect is a great game and I am sorry you do not see that.
Ok im sorry I made you angry. I just get frustrated with the idea that a SP only game might get voted GOTY.
Remember everyone reaction to Shadowruns no SP? They ripped into FASA, and now they are gone. So when I see a SP only game get put on a pedestal, I lose it.
To be honest GOTY is silly. Each person has different tastes. However individual GOTY (such as this post topic) are valid because it gives gamers some feedback on why a particular title is fun.
I think Mass Effect is truely BORING. I spent to much time scrolling through pre-programmed questions to pre-destined answers to have fun. It almost reminds me of the old FULL VIDEO MOTION games. Where you pick the direction and the story progresses accordingly. That may be fun for some, but to me it feels very contrived. I’m sure your choices have an impact on the game’s story. However getting there isn’t exciting. It’s like watching a movie where every 15 seconds you have to pick the chapter you want to watch.
That said I’m not a RPG fan
(and that’s why)
What all of you here have to keep in mind is that i made a list of the games that have been talked about alot as possibly being GOTY, and also are talked about here at Platform Nation. I do not pick favorites, i go based on whats been talked about the most by our fellow gaming community.
This has nothing to do with personal preference, but shouldnt a SP game get just as much recognition as a game that has both SP and MP if each game is done right, plays well, and entertains you. Take Bioshock for example, great SP experience done right, and having a MP feature in there might have turned out to be like the MP in Stranglehold, very limited.
Thats just my take on this whole situation. Think what you will about it.
“This has nothing to do with personal preference”- Well if that’s true then your asking what is the GOTY from a merchandise viewpoint. That would be HALO3.
So pehaps a GOTY post from a gamers view would be more interesting for Platform Nation members. I’m sure there are many other sites that cater for Marketing Purposes…
When i used the phrase “This has nothing to do with personal preference” i was referring to my opinion about what Anzrac Rage said about how he would lose it if a SP game was put on the pedestal as a potential GOTY.
I was asking this question merely on the standpoint as to which games the gamers of this community thought should be the GOTY based on what they have played.And i’m a gamer, so this post is from a gamers viewpoint.
Its fine to have SP games to choose from for GOTY, It just that when we pick our GOTY we kinda do a fanboy thing by picking our favorite game, instead of looking at the big picture.
Let say we were rating a game by braking it up in to criteria.
Ok, lets rate COD4, SP mode 8/10
MP mode 9/10
total 17/20
now Mass Effect SP mode 10/10
MP mode 0/10
total 10/20
Im not saying over all CoD4 beats ME but on that criteria alone it would.
If developers choose not to do MP its at their our Peril.
Personally, I think we should pick 2 GOTY then. If we are rating a game for not having MP like Mass Effect or a SP like Shadowrun then we should have a GOTY for just SP and just MP that way it is fair. A game with an awesome MP and no SP should have a chance too as well as visa versa.
