Gamers Roundtable Recording Friday

Posted under XBL Radio by Rusty Ranchero

This is one of the reasons it’s called “your radio”.  We’ll be recording this Friday night with a whole new group of gamers for some fresh opinions about the world we game in.  If you have some news, issues or gossip that’ll make good topics, then post ‘em here.  Not only is your support appreciated, it’s what helps us thrive.

  1. PacoDG Said,

Really random, but wrestling game on the Wii vs HD consoles (PS3/360). I know on the 360 Smackdown looks all shiny and detailed, but when I see the Wii version, it looks a lot more fun.

Same with Madden, did not the Wii get extra features/challenges/something on the Wii version (I am not a football person)?

I am trying to form these thoughts into some form of a question, but, I guess maybe it is time for Microsoft to just make some sort of motion sensing controller. I can’t see why it would hurt the system. There would be the initial “but you are just copying the wii!” .. but hey, better to do it now, than a couple of weeks before the system debuted at an E3 (ie what Sony pulled if I remember).

My Wii collects dust. Xbox has the games, has a lot of devs already working with them, I guess I just want the system to ‘have it all’ because I am lazy about switching the channels to use a different gaming system.

  2. GUI J Said,

Also Remember Rust Friday is the first round of the Platform Nation Halo Contest competition. Which you have not signed up for I might add???

  3. X3R0 9 Said,

The sign-ups end on Friday. The contest actually kicks off on Sunday. How about Orange Box impressions. I’m kinda wanting to get some opinions about that because, I know I’m buying either COD4 or Mass Effect, and I maybe able to squeeze something else in, but as far as my Holiday Wish List, I would like to have an idea how to rank some others in the list.

  4. X3R0 9 Said,

Oh, by the way, why haven’t you signed up yet Rusty?

  5. mik Said,

There’s been a lot of discussion about “value” of late–on messageboards and in game reviews. For example, Shadowrun and Warhawk were criticized for being multiplayer only and $40 being too much for such a limited game. Heavenly Sword, The Darkness, and other games have been criticized for being too short–at 6 to 8 hours–to justify a $60 purchase.

Conversely, Halo 3 and The Orange Box have been roundly praised for packing so much value into a single $60 disc.

Personally, I was completely satisfied spending $60 on both Heavenly Sword and The Darkness, because of the quality they packed into 7 or 8 hours of gameplay. And in the case of Portal, I’d have felt totally justified in spending 50 or 60 bucks for what amounts to a 3-hour ride, because the ride is that damn good.

So, I’d like to know what the members of the roundtable think. What do you expect for your $60? Does EVERY game have to have multiplayer? How short is too short for a singleplayer game? Or is there such a thing as “too short” if what you’re getting is so good, so free of useless filler, that you’re left feeling exhilirated and wanting more?

  6. Rusty Ranchero Said,

When it comes to gaming, making a schedule is out of the question. Weather it’s weeks, days or even HOURS in advance, making a commitment is not something I can do often and I usually end up regretting when I do.

  7. PacoDG Said,

I agree with Mik (my thoughts on Bioshock http://www.xbox360rally.com/problems-with-bioshock-the-game-of-the-year-flaws-start-to-show/ ).

  8. Thiskory9 Said,

-The PS3 Price Drop for the shitty version.

-… I will think of something..
