My Heart Will Go On and On…

Posted under Microsoft, MrCarpalTunnel, Rumor Control, Xbox 360 by MrCarpalTunnel

A lot can happen in a week. I was recently on Vacation, with my family,  this week. Gaming was the last thing on my mind. However with E3 and the Billion dollar warrenty situation; I may have picked a good time to take off.

Well now I am back, and something is eating away at me. So here I go with my “Conspiracy Theory” (or thats how it was reffered to on Major Nelson’s Podcast)

I will start by stating Peter Moore has done a lot for Xbox. As far as a figure-head goes, he promotted the console in a vibriant, intelligent manner. He made his name a staple on the MS team.  I tip my hat to what I concede as a job well done.

So why am I writing this? I want to let Major Nelson and Moore know why people will draw conclusions to his departure:

You’re the Captain of the Ship. In smooth sailing you stand at the helm and bask in the glow of those green rings. However when the dust hits the cooling fan; you don’t jump ship.

You’re on record as saying your a Family man first. That was a big reason for your departure. I saw Titanic several times. Isn’t it “Women and Children first” or were you just referring to your family?

You also said your Children wanted to move:

I, like you, have kids. They, like yours, want to eat. With that in mind my career comes first.

Finally the last thing you announce at your MS title is your taking up residense at EA. Isn’t this the same company that took micro-transactions to a whole new level? So EA goes from leaving the Xbox out of the loop (remember the early Xbox days) to owning the one person who spoke loudest for the console.

In the end it doesn’t matter to most why Peter decided to jump ship. However callingthose who post and blog about possible scenarios “conspiracy theorists” is just lame. Perhaps thats the reason you had a hard time relating to all those pissed off red ringed customers. You couldn’t read your own writing on the wall.

-There I said it!

That’s the greatest photoshop montoge I’ve ever seen in my life.

  2. Thrillhouse17 Said,

That is a pretty good picture.

I’m sure that the 1.5 million signing bonus, the 330,000 moving expense bonus, and the 550,000 a year guarantee salary was a deciding factor in his move. Plus, now he’s heading up EA sports aka Madden, which has much more industry clout than the 360 does. Career-wise, it was a smart move.

  3. xboxliveaware Said,

Like thrillhouse said that salary and bonus made the deal sweeter. If I uprooted my family from the only home they knew and had a chance to go back, make more money in a field I love (he is a sports enthusiast and was a pro soccer player back in the day), I would do it. He has only been there 4 years.

I have no problem calling posters “conspiracy theorists”, it’s not like it is a bad term. It is actually what they are, they have a theory that is against what they have been told officially. I have had alot of conspiracy theories go through my head and keyboard also and have no problem being called a conspiracy theorist because at that time I am one.

I honestly think since the ball had been rolling on this for months now the move had little to do with most people’s theories about the warranty issue. But my own theory is that he probably would still be at MS if the package he got at EA wasn’t so good. But who knows, and the biggest question is why do most people care.

Rusty you mean that picture isn’t real? Next thing you’re going to tell me that Santa and the Easter Bunny . . . oh forget it. :-)

I think this move was in the works for quite a while. It just doesn’t seem like that big and complicated of a financial deal could happen overnight.

Either way I always have Liked Peter. Unlike some of the Execs he SEEMED to care about gamers. If it was an act then he’s a pretty good actor.

You know what would be nice Carpal? A positive article for a change

But back to what you wrote I do believe that there was more about him leaving then what was said, ie 3 red lights

On a side note though isn’t this a little bit of old news? I know you were on vacation but this has already been beat to death in my mind

  6. MrCarpalTunnel Said,

I agree, with you Worridor. He was a friend to a lot of gamers. MS is fortunate to have the ability to lure intelligent players to the game. However the time of the departure will be a staple on his work at MS. Your only as good as your last at bat.

  7. Demarbiex Said,

I don’t think it’s old news. What are we now on a time frame for thoughts? So If I have an opinion I have to make sure I get it out on time?

The BLOG is an addition to our CAST and COMMUNITY. As with all BLOGS they are random thoughts and happenings with the people who run them.

If 60 minutes/20 20/ or Dateline had to only cover subject matter that happened within a week (Moore hasn’t even left yet, so how can that be old news) than news wouldn’t exist.

We are not a FOX NEWS ALERT site. We are a podcast site that discusses current events.

You also said Carpal is NEGATIVE all the time. Hmmm let’s see: So is Bill Maher, Niel Boortz, Sean Hannity, Bill O’ Reilley, Geraldo, and the list goes on. Remember the first words of reporting: If it bleeds it leads.

Sure we could discuss how great the 360 is, and how much fun we have playing on it. And they do. Listen to the show each week. But it’s boring if there is no constructive critism.

Did it ever occur to you that Carpal posts all the bad crap on the BLOG and not on air? Perhaps he wants his show to shed a positive light on the Xbox community. However the blog is for people who know all of us. Therefore they expect us to be real. I can assure CARPAL talks to me , and I talk to him in the same manner he chats on the show. He isn’t a phoney trying to get noticed. He does show because its his words and his outlet to express his thoughts. If thats not what you want to hear or read than there are alternatives.
