   I’ve been listening to Major for quite some time now (since about September 2005) and at first I thought his show was great. I thought “Wow, here is a guy who loves games, works at MS, and is willing to do a show for us”. He covered the crazyness that was the 360 launch very well, and gave good information in an entertaining way. As time went by the cracks started to show. He seemed TOO happy about MS. Every time a game was released, or something happened, he’d jabber on about how fantastic it was, and how great xbox live is compared to the competition. His agenda started to show. Some segments on his shows are just garbage. I’ve seen knifes being sold on the home shopping network with more grace and tact than some of his segments. He might as well start each interview with “So tell us, how amazingly awesome is your game”. I still listen, as some of his interviews (with developers) actually are entertaining and insightful, but I’m not as naive as I first was. When listening just remember who he is and who he works for.

   Guys, Larry works for Microsoft, did you expect anything different? The new system is for new users, the hard drive transfer cables only come with the stand alone drive. Yes it’s overpriced and that’s why I choose not to get one. You have a choice, your GAMING experience is not hurt by not upgrading, so if you are a gamer, you do not have to purchase anything.

The thing that makes me angry is that I bought the top of the line XBOX 360 and a Year later for me it will no longer be the top of the line system for xbox, which makes me think that its value has dropped as well. What are they going to do for all these people that pick up the new box for IPTV and they are not able to get IPTV where they live. I think if they were really for the gamer they would have it where you could use a usb hard drive. They can’t be doing this to give us HDMI cause I remember right before Christmas Larry had someone from the HD part of MS on his podcast and they were saying that HDMI is not a big factor in gaming and that they were about gaming not movies.    Damn…I’m sorry guys I just think this post is really irresponsible. Never once did I listen to Majors pod cast for an unbiased point of view. The guy is Microsoft’s community leader, his job is to be 100% pro Xbox, and I am o.k. with that. At the end of the day Microsoft is also paying his bills and giving the guy a living. I listen to Majors pod cast cause he gives us great interviews with Microsoft staff and sometimes great exclusives, not cause I think his point of view is unbiased, Major never hid from that fact as he has stated it many times before. Now XBL radio on the other hand, people listen to because we can be as unbiased as we want, we represent the community from the gamers point of view. I have no problems with people being upset with what Microsoft has done with the Elite, but to call out Major? That’s just not fair, if anything he has been great for the community. I don’t know the guy, have never spoke to him, so this is just coming as something I see as wrong. Disagree if you want but sometimes you have to be careful what you put online for the world to see. But as the world goes it’s always easier to be mad at the messenger…

    I do think though that to be bias or not is something hard to define.

    You give your opinion or thoughts as to how you liked a certain game or whatever, and we should just take it as it is, your sole opinion.

    For example, Someone called Uno the game of the year, and while I’m pretty sure that game appeals to a lot of people, to me that game it’s a piece of crap. Sorry but I don’t play cards on TV. I play them on a table. But of course everyone is entitled to his own opinion and if you like that type of genre that game might be for you.

    Likewise with the new SKU, if I were a first time buyer and I thought I would need that much HHDD space and I must have an HDMI then I would go for the Elite package and it would make sense to do so.

    It so happens though that you already have a Premiun 360, and that you want your 1080p signal. So why don’t you use the VGA port then? Just buy the cable, it’s way cheaper than buying a new 360 and you get the same Video quality.

    It could also happen that your TV is either a 480i/p 720p or 1080i (the vast majority of them) in which case the whole VGA/HDMI would not matter at all.

    I myself personally rather havd HDMI then Bluray/HDDVD becuse i dont watch movies. You only have to buy another controller if you want two.

    A neat idea would be if MS had a upgrade kit that was just the Xbox elite and HDD. Instead of paying $480 with the controller,headset,and cords you could pay $400 or so without that stuff.

    That’s actually why I stopped listening to his show last year. I think it was maybe a month after EA had released some ridiculous downloadable content, and he had a guy from EA on his show. He was *so* soft with him, that for the first time in my life I essentially got up and walked out, ‘cept all I did was hit the stop button in winamp and remove his show from my podcast downloader.

    I’m behind Carpal on this one. I understand he’s a Microsoft employee and all, but the way he portrays himself would suggest that he’s completely unbiased.

    Yeah I was a little miffed at that podcast. I’m honestly fine with them coming out with a new one, yeah I would have liked to have the bigger hd and the hdmi from the start but it’s not really a big deal to me.

    I’m on the bandwagon that I’m glad they aren’t making a built in HD-DVD/Blu-Ray in a unit, keeps the cost down and they don’t have to bank on a format til the war is over between them. I’d be really miffed if they did include one soon, I can see it in a few years once the war is over. That’s smart actually.

    Yeah that podcast was an infomercial for the Elite, I’m pretty pissed they are even calling it Elite…What are people who get it better than us who have standard? But his podcast usually is promotion, I mean that is his job.

    What I do like is that in several ways they are doing it right. Because they are including the HDMI cord and audio adapter and all that when PS3 only comes with a standard RCA/Composite right? But they are the true HD console right? When the don’t include the cords for you haha.

    I’m not a fanboy of any console but Sony’s mistakes just makes me laugh and wonder why their fanboys still feel love for Sony while getting screwed.

    Anyways, I’ll be checking out your stuff soon, I’ve been watching the videos you’ve posted on here. Also what might I do to maybe get involved with you guys? I’m honestly extremely interested to get into some sort of gaming blog or the industry.

I don’t recall one time that we have bashed any podcast on air. If I have a beef with something I speak my mind, as we all do here at XBL Radio, and we have that right. He’s interviewing someone from MS that worked on the project, put lots of his time and truoble into a product that he has the right to try to defend.     Major does his show, shows his viewpoint. XBL do their show, show their viewpoint. If everyone only listened to people with the same opinions then the nation would be divided in half. Different doesn’t mean wrong. Some people are in love with the Elite, some people hate it.

    I don’t care that Major has different views from me. It is his right! I just wish that he posed more questions on his show and didn’t just accept things for what they were. You also have to remember where he sits: he is in MS’s palm. If he tries to apply too much pressure they’ll simply crush him. He isn’t going to bite the hand that feeds him. I love the fact that Major has a podcast. Some of his interviews (I remember the Saint’s Row and Crackdown interview) are great. I want him to do more of them. Some of his interviews seem horribly forced, and heavily spun to show MS in a pure light. I just wish that he’d stand up when consumers are being screwed and disagree with MS…but I understand that he can’t.

    We aren’t going to agree with all media outlets. Even XBLradio has had segments that I disagreed with (cough, Saint’s Row review, cough)…but that is why it is called an opinion, a viewpoint. We all owe it to ourselves to be as informed as possible and THEN, and only then, make a final decision.

    What conversation are you guys reading. I never called out Major Nelson or Trixie. I simply pointed out that months ago, on his podcast, HDMI (all of it) was stated as not being necessary on this console and that black wasn’t a color that Nelson enjoyed on the PS3.

    The “FANBOY” remark is no different than if we were playing a game together and someone “T” bagged me. It’s SLANG us gamers use to refer to someone as over celebratory over a particular subject.

    I have never said anything about any MVP
    (behind the scenes or otherwise)
    Trust me on this, I don’t even know what an MVP actually does.

    However if any statements were made from e-mail to e-mail, on the forums, or on other closed conversations: that is where they belong. It is a freedom of speech issue, I can’t stop that and won’t try.

    Although you can count on this. If I am wrong I will admit and correct it. However I am not going to simply stop reporting on what employees for MS, Sony, and Nintendo say and do. Even if it means disagreeing with them. If I did that the show would be irrelevant. There are plenty of other Podcast that do that. XBLR has always emphasized that we are not afraid to express our opinions no matter what the cost.

    If that means we hurt someone’s feelings from time to time I am sorry, but I have had to grow a thick skin in doing the cast (go look at some of our reviews) and in the end I prefer a good difference of opinions, it makes for great audio!

    Chava FX if any thing you don’t know what you are talking about, Steve 519 is one of the only host here at XBL Radio that has been saying that the PS 3 is not a good system just go back to any of the shows right before the PS 3 made its way to selfs. No Carpal and myself took the other side and said wait to see who will be crowned king. But to make remarks like what you are making against Steve you really need to do your home work first because anyone who listens to XBL Radio would know that Steve is not a big fan of the PS 3, PSP, PS 2, and most of there products excluding there TV’s. Also we report what’s going on in gaming, and the tech industry the name XBL Radio comes from when we all first came together on the first XBOX over live and that 50% of our show is recorded over Xbox Live.     Elite is a rip off. Get a 20 GB PS3 and upgrade the HDD to 120 for about the same price and you get a free HD player and play/charge kit. At best the 360 will tie the PS3 this round. So there will be good stuff for both.

    Personal jabs at Major Nelson are kinda unfair. Calling someone a fanboy is usually a way to jab at their credibility and/or try to show their biases. Major Nelson works for Microsoft but has quite often talked about Google, Apple and many other companies. Of course he is going to talk about Microsoft products; he’s surrounded by them all day at his job.

    I agree that the SKU announcement and the price of the HDD is disturbing but talking directly about the products and what they lack/do not lack is more informative than talking about Major Nelson. I too have posted negative comments regarding the product announcement on my website but did not take any jabs at people directly; it just causes contraversy when none is really needed.

    Once again, I called Major Nelson a FANBOY and meant it. I listen to his show and do my homework. He has dogged the PS3 many times for the things they are doing. His has a direct corralation to the Xbox, he is not just a quasi-podcaster. He is a part of MS. So I hold him on a higher level than Gamespot, 1up and other sites. So when I hear him make fun of Sony for no HDMI cable, and laugh as he tells us to trade our 100 dollar Hard Drive in at Gamestop, I laugh back!
