Circuit City is Ripping off Xbox 360 owners

Posted under Steve519, Tech News, Xbox by Steven Artlip (Steve519)

How bad does Circuit City want your money? So much so that the retailer is willing to “install” backward compatibility on your Xbox 360. Kotaku reader Brad snapped a photo of this sign at Circuit City in Newport Beach, California.

Wow, now this is hard to believe but it’s true. I wonder if the people who buy this service know that if the game is BC, you get it for free off of Xbox Live. And look closely at the pic, “Every game will be playable in high def” what a lie, for those who don’t look at the list could possibly waste 28.99 for this. Awful, I hope that they put a stop to this.

Ive always hated circut city. They get my c**ks**ker ward of the Year.Mabe there owned by EA?

  2. ezporter Said,

i thought i’d seen it all.

  3. Rusty Ranchero Said,

I\’m sure BestBuy will follow suit with their \”Geek Squad\” service. This unfortunately is no surprise that a big company wants to capitalize off of dumb parents.

However, there should be some kind of law that requires them to disclose that the service could be done with Xbox Live AND even over xbox.com at NO cost.

The sign is clearly a lie. \”Every original Xbox game*\” is not compatible with the Xbox 360. There is no list called \”the original Xbox games list\” that tells me which games are BackCompat. (2 can play this word game).

well,i think that only people that know about games should play them.I wish the idiots ahould be weeded out.

  5. MrCarpalTunnel Said,

This is par for Best Buy. I have discussed several things with their sales staff, even their “Geek-Squad” , and I usually play dumb to see what they will try to sell me, and you would be amazed at some of the answers I have gotten. One guy told me the Def in High-Def is because it originally started in the Ghetto.

I heard that Wal-Mart might soon offer a wireless controller installation.

  6. Steve519 Said,

wal-mart controller install, you know what carpal, thats one of the funniest things I think you’ve every come up with. And btw you better call walmart up and tell them your idea so you get a slice of the pie

  7. Racingfreak92 Said,

I dont think people working at walmart are smart enough to turn it on themselfs

  8. avid x Said,

This is so stupid of C.C. who thinks this stuff up.

  9. XBL Radio Said,

Stupid? According to who? Surely a smart way to make a profit according to a business man or corporation. I wonder if Microsoft will realize that this may be bad for the console?

When CC offers this service to the customer, they might wonder “This $400 piece of plastic is NOT backwards compat out of the box? Forget this, I’ll wait for the PS3 or Wii!”

Losing a customer is usually not a good thing.

  10. Racingfreak92 Said,

Backwards compatibiblity is like halo2.Its a big thing that never lives up to the hype. Most of the xbox1 games i have arent compatible and if they were i wouldnt play them. I have 5 360 retail games and dont have enough time to play them as it is.Ive used BC 5 times.

  11. lostman1970 Said,

I don’t agree with this either, but let me play the devil’s advocate - what if I had a 360 and only a dial up so I couldn’t get the BC downloads. What if Circuit City is just hooking up the 360 and using their internet connection to download the updates? Good idea, but if I owned the store, I’d offer it for free as an incentive to pay from my store.

  12. Steve519 Said,

You can request a disc from MS though, so there is no reason to pay such a high fee for it

  13. Racingfreak92 Said,

You can also get the updates from OXM.

  14. CapnKrunk Said,

Put it this way…if you’re enough of a tool to shop at Circuit City (which I’ve had nothing but horrible experiences with, really), then maybe you deserve to get taken. Caveat emptor.

  15. lostman1970 Said,

Racing freak, even OXM is 9.99 here, so that is only 20 bucks cheaper than circuit city.

Just remember, I’m not pro circuit city, but I can see why they tried to make a sale.

I think I went to buy a washing machine from there one time because of a sale, but I ended up paying 50.00 more elsewhere because the service sucked at cc.
